Sex is normal, but taboo in society

Because a normal subject like sex is taboo in society, many times women are subjected to such comments from their partners.

As the matter is very personal, they don't want to talk about it easily with anyone.

Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Vice Chairman Professor Dr. Roshan Ara Begum said that there is no scientific basis for this claim of vaginal enlargement with sexual intercourse.

He said, there is no relationship between the woman's vaginal enlargement and repeated sexual intercourse.

Fistula specialist and gynecology surgeon Dr Nrinmoy Biswas shares the same opinion. However, even if sexual intercourse has no role in the enlargement of the vagina, the vagina can become enlarged due to some reasons, he said.

The role of the vagina in sex

And this is exactly why a mother can give birth to her child through a narrow space like the vagina.

What causes vaginal enlargement?

Vaginal enlargement can occur with age

Vaginal enlargement is not related to repeated intercourse, but it can be enlarged for different reasons.

Girls' vagina expands during pregnancy and vaginal delivery.

But since it is elastic, the area returns to its original state much, if not completely, at a later time.

Another reason for vaginal enlargement is women's age.

Dr. Nrinmoy Biswas said, “The pelvic wall that is the inner part of the vagina in women weakens with age. As a result, the vagina expands”.

Mostly women after 40 face this kind of problem.

Besides, hormonal reasons can also cause vaginal enlargement.

"Due to the hormones called estrogen, progesterone and androgens, the pelvic wall of women is strong, for some reason, if the effect of these hormones decreases, then the pelvic wall becomes weak and the vagina expands," Mr. Biswas said.

He also said that due to some physical characteristics, the vagina may be weak from birth.

“If a person's pelvis is compressed from an early age, the vagina is less likely to expand. Similarly, many people are born with a weak pelvis, which makes it more prone to prolapse.

Suspicions of extramarital affairs

The victim's husband alleged that she had an unknowing relationship with another man

Miz Vasudha, a housewife living in the capital, said that her husband used to complain about the vagina.

Miz Vasudha's husband comments on her vagina as 'saggy' or 'loose' during intercourse. As the reason for this, her husband also complained that she had an unknowing relationship with another man.

Her husband made this complaint after two years of relationship. None of his children were born during this time.

But he had no idea about this. Miz Vasudha said that its effect is also seen in married life.

Conventional ideas influence marriage

He said, as a result, the place of respect is shaken. Negativity works in the relationship and normal marriage becomes difficult to move forward.

Another university student Sadia (pseudonym) was a victim of such incident.

He said, bringing up the previous relationship, his partner commented on the vagina, saying that it was so loose that Miz Sadia would not understand when he entered.

Later, due to this incident, they got divorced.

Women's concerns about the vagina during childbirth have increased

Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Professor Dr. Roshan Ara Begum said that women's concern about vagina has increased compared to before.

He said, if necessary during childbirth, the vagina is cut to take out the child and later it is stitched again.

Earlier no one bothered about it, but now the scenario is very different. Many times, before the birth of a newborn, someone from the grandmother or grandmother's relation comes and repeats it repeatedly so that there is no cut in the vagina.

Many women also talk to doctors about the crisis of problems in married life due to the enlargement of the vagina after giving birth vaginally. In that case, they choose to give birth through C-section or caesarean section.

In response to the question whether there is any way to shrink the vagina due to age or hormonal reasons, fistula specialist and gynecology surgeon Dr. Nrinmoy Biswas said that due to the weakening of the muscles of the lower abdomen through a special exercise called the pelvic floor, the strength of the vagina was slightly enlarged. But he also said that it does not change much.
